Social Health, The New Frontier

Our Social Connectors ... Volunteers

Volunteers are everything to our organization and we do not exist without them.  They serve on  the Board and leadership team of the HNN and on committees that keep the doors open and the lights on in the venues where social activities and events are held.  They also serve as activity and event organizers and hosts, the frontline service providers for ensuring that folks in our rural hamlets have opportunities to stay socially connected.

While all they do is out of the spotlight of mainstream healthcare services, their efforts have a profound impact on social health, an essential component to living longer, happier and healthier lives.  Going forward, the HNN is committed to creating a foundation to better understand, appreciate, and value the role of community-based,  social health services providers and those who support them.  In doing so, we will not only ask our volunteers "What can you do for us?" but will recognize the need to give equal importance to asking "What do you need, and what can we do for you?"

Why social health is key to happiness and longevity

If social health is so important, shouldn't we formalize informal roles creating more opportunities for people to socialize?
